A story that we don’t see very often in Pakistani dramas and of course Hamza’s acting takes it to a whole new level of brilliance.

Television dramas is one of those marvels of modern media that have revolutionized the life of every man and women and even the children try to find their lifestyle in these TV plays. There was a time when television dramas used to mould and reshape the whole life style of people in an effective manner but unfortunately such circumstance are not seen in today’s modern dramas. Instead of being the second image of the Pakistani culture and traditions these TV plays are strongly influencing the brains and thoughts of teenagers.
After the entire day of hard work and troublesome a person sits in front of the television to refresh his mind but he witness nothing but the plays based upon the violence, sex related crime and offenses of a similar nature that puts a brief impact on the minds of teenagers and Pakistani culture.
As regard the teenagers are concerned they spend their excessive time on the television to engage themselves into some physical exercises based programs but once they switch on the television they find nothing but the useless detail reports and programs based upon the fashion industry and illegal dramas. The researchers have found that those children who spend their maximum time on the television screen get themselves indulge into less concentration in their studies.
In addition Television plays can also proves to be a beneficial mass medium as regard the advertisements and promotional campaign is concerned. It can surely present such promotional products that can appear to be harmful for the health and as a result those people who are less aware from this fact they would definably avoid such items. Furthermore as the Television dramas highlight the hungriness for reputation and money in a same way it starts appearing its results on the people.
They also began to get more money and as they began to consider their life boring they start living the life of their favorite character and this arises a passion in them to get all those things that the television dramas have in them. Moreover television also presents wide ranging programs on the horror and horrible characters that can appears to be frightful for the small aged children as the psychologist have concluded from their enhanced studies that much of the children who get afraid while sleeping is mainly because of watching dreadful plays on television. At the end it must never be forget that the life of Television characters are temporary and we are living in reality. In the final conclusion, we can say that without any doubt television dramas bring negative impact on the Pakistani culture.

Loosing Our Culture and Identity
Gone are the days when families would sit together and watch Pakistani dramas. Instead, today we get to see the ‘not-so-moving’ storylines that seem to be inspired by Indian soaps. What is worse is that our TV channels show things that are in direct contradiction with our cultural and social values.
From pregnancies to abortions, from extra-marital affairs to illegitimate children and elopements, we have been exposed to all kinds and degrees of absurd content in these dramas in the name of modern entertainment. Even respectable relationships are not spared. I have seen countless dramas where a guy falls in love with his niece or his daughter’s friend or a girl starts having an affair with her brother-in-law, and uses all sorts of ploys and unfair means to make him her life-partner. These dramas even show maids being used as objects of physical pleasure and satisfaction by their male employers.
Mausam ( Hum Tv Drama)
Just like all the other plays written by Aliya Bukhari, this one also started with a bang. This first episode was fast paced and engrossing. The story has absolutely nothing new to offer (just like Dil-e-Muzter, also written by the same writer) but it still managed to hold my attention mainly due to the short and to the point scenes. The play has been directed by Romi Insha and produced by Momina Duraid.
Mausam is the story of two cousins (who have been raised like sisters) who have nothing in common but they get along quite well at least for now, until of course our hero will become the “bone of contention” between them! Yes, like I said the story has been done to death! Shazia (Yumna Zaidi) is outgoing, a little rebellious and has a colorful personality. Her cousin Saman (Hareem Farooq) is your regular simple, obedient and of course very attractive young girl. We have seen both these characters in many dramas before too.
The promos reminded me of all the dramas based on the story of two sisters starting from Maat to Rishtey Kuch Adhoorey Se. The girls come from a middle class background and our hero Hashir Hassan (Ahsan Khan) is very rich. Hashir Hassan has all the luxuries that a person can afford but he doesn’t even have a good relationship with his mother, who I think is the only family he has. Hashir Hassan’s mother’s character is yet another stereotype which we have seen on our screens often enough.Fazilat Mami’s (Naila Jafferi) character is a nice addition to the drama. We don’t get to see sensible ladies like her on our TV screens very often. Shazia’s mother (Humaira Zaheer) is raising her daughter all by herself so she is very strict with her. Saman’s mother does not have much of a say in the house and Shazia’s mother is considered the head of the family. Her character was another one which reminded me of many mothers and fathers which we have seen in our dramas; the sort who are very conscious about their children’s upbringing and end up getting very disappointed when they find out what their children have been up to.

Depiction of Pakistani Women through Dramas
The troubled image of modern Pakistani women conjured up by Pakistani dramas is extremely distorted and single dimensional. Stories, it is said, are a subtle yet are the most influential way of documenting the social evolution of a society. The story of a woman sells but the modern media has gone one step ahead by proving that the story of a woman being abused, tortured, beaten and humiliated sells faster.
The massive projection of domestic and women related violence might appear as an attempt to serve the cause but a closer look will reveal an entirely different and gross story. The disturbing image of woman being pushed, slapped, bad mouthed (mostly by close family) constantly overwhelms the TV screen. No matter how fast you switch channels, it is impossible to escape the harrowing images.
Domestic violence is a highly sensitive area and must be advocated in subtle and meaningful ways. If mishandled – the way it is on our dramas – it could create an impact far more unsettling than sexually explicit content. Such disturbing content must appear with prior warnings to avoid the uneasy situation in a family living room.
When children see family settings in a drama they instantly relate it to their own family and when it turns violent it certainly creates unfathomable effects of insecurity and fear in their subconscious. The sight of explicitly treated domestic violence creates embarrassing situation among the family as well.

A very talented actress who played a negative role in this drama passed away in a road accident. this drama was a memory of her. may her soul rest in peace.
The Blast of Enigma -Bashar Momin Geo Tv drama
Bashar Momin gained the popularity and the 100000 (one lac) likes before the 1st episode went air was something amazing- it was everywhere on the electronic, social and print media. Everyone was excited to know what exactly Bashar Momin is??? Why Faysal Qureshi got these cool yet devilish looks??? Why Ushna Shah after negative character in Rukhsar is playing a role of an innocent girl –why begging Bashar Momin, but without any doubt she proved that she is a genuine actor -Beauty with Brains
Well their characters were prominent in the promos and the teasers before the episode went on air. So I had quite lot expectations with the drama as many big names were attached and the hype was created that it is going to be the most expensive drama in the history of Pakistani Media Industry.
And Bashar Momin fulfilled all the expectations and gave a shutup call to all the haters. First Episode started with the engagement ceremony of Rudaba (Ushna Shah) with none other than Buland Bakhtiar (Sami Khan) who lives in America and works at World bank on a reputed post but Rudaba thinks that he is going to be some arrogant and rude brat who doesn’t possess any love for country or family values. Her father tried his level best to make her understand that Buland is a good person and he is not an inch of what he thinks of him. Buland is Bakhtiar’s son, and Bakhtiar loves Rudaba as if she is his own daughter. Rudaba is one simple, innocent, down to earth and family oriented girl whose life revolves around her father and brother Adil (Yasir Mazher).
Adil lives with his wife Sahira (Maheen Rizvi) who is big-headed, swollen with pride, rude and outspoken women, who is living a luxurious life with her husband on her brother’s expenses. Adil works for Bashar Momin (Sahira’s brother) he makes his black money white illegally, that’s why he lives in a separate house as Adil and Rudaba’s father has been a sincere and an honest bureaucrat throughout his life so he wouldn’t allow his son to do such illegal stuff. No father would want such life for his son.
Furthermore, after Rudaba’s engagement Sahira felt insulted as Rudaba’s father gave an insulting answer to Adil’s questions regarding Rudaba’s engagement. So Sahira tried her best and somehow succeeded in manipulating Rudaba’s mind and filling her brains with crap against Buland and his character. Rudaba is very innocent that she actually believed what so ever Rudaba said to her and she even complained to her dad “Koi itna zalim nahi hota, apni beti kay saath to nahi” but then he made her understand that Sahira has this ability to control other’s mind, and don’t let her do this to you.
Finally, Faysal Qureshi’s new avatar came in front in this episode! At first it was difficult to relate Bashar’s character with Faysal Qureshi but later on I realized that yes, Only Faysal Qureshi can do this. Faysal Qureshi –I mean Bashar Momin’s character was unkind, arrogant, rude, and cruel. He has everything be it money – power – status – fame and name but he didn’t have happiness (this was obvious). Tayabba (Sundas Tariq) Sahira and Buland’s younger sister who was engaged twice but those engagements were called off because of Bashar’s reputation. One thing is quite clear that he can’t see pain or tears in his sister’s eyes and can kill the whole world to bring happiness for them.
Undoubtedly the direction, costumes, ambiance, dialogues, cinematography, direction of photography, all of the title songs and particularly the screen everything was amazing. Syed Ali Raza Usama proved himself to be the perfectionist. Zanjabeel’s script created a character of Bashar Momin who is going to stay in heart of the audience for a long time.

Our society strongly believes in relationships but this culture use these as a source of enjoyment, so the element of respect has completely vanished. The very close relatives i.e. Father, mother, brothers, sisters are the big source of enjoyment for them. They through jokes on them and insult on the stage in the front of hundred of people. They compel their sisters to dance and felt prestige happiness while watching their dance. Although all the relation is temporary in nature but they have used the word dady, mama, brother and sister while acting in the stage play. These relations are losing their sacredness and uniqueness. For these people the words, like Father, mother, brothers, and sisters have no meanings at the stage. They treat all the people same on the stage during play or drama. There is no body younger or elder in play all of equal age so they through jokes on one and other with no regard to the age of targeted person. Some other social relationship is also greatly affected by this drama culture. All close friends and relatives are then the person who are directly or indirectly involve in these activities. Father, mother, brothers, and sisters all are enjoying themselves while working in the play. Justice has the very secret status in the Islamic society. This is also treated badly by this culture. They have to make fun of the justice. They have to do their own decision for the sake of enjoyment of the audience. The ideas they present in their plays some time induce negative thinking about the rich people of the society. The poor young people start thinking that there is definitely their right in the wealth of rich people, so there start tension b/w haves and have notes which is the major cause of social disparity. On the other hand they represent the rich people in a way, which made the rich people more proud who has the thinking that poor people are only for their service. They show them so much cruel and selfish in character, so other element of society start hating rich people. In this way the social justice is disturbed by drama culture. The veil (Pardah) is vanished near to its completion. The women (mostly the young ladies) come out of their homes with great degree of fashion. They feel great pleasure while wearing short and tight cloths. The female come on the stage, they sing and dance simultaneously in front of thousands of people. The female who have to wear the veil, use the very attractive colors so to induce evils in the society. Now days, female are just like a showpiece that is handled by different element of the society. As every person use decoration piece according to his choice similarly each element of society uses the female. This drama culture is also a financial burden on the society. A lot of money wasted on this that has no reward to society.
Money earned by this mean is not fruitful for the society b/c this is not a legal mean of earning. The addict people do everything even theft for watching dramas. The average rate of ticket of the live stage drama is Rs.150 and people in each theater are on an average 250, which is equal to the Rs.37500. this huge amount is wasted daily by the citizen on this fruitless activity. This is a rough estimate of one theater. There is much more such theater in the country where people spent both money and time. Time is also very important which wasted carelessly in such activities. The usual duration of the drama is 3hours, so in one theater 750 hours are wasted. By this you can easily access the loss to the society by this drama culture. All the effect that I mention above has very strong impact on the mind of the children and the teenager. Although the process of changing believes is very slow but it have everlasting impact. Until we don’t take collectively action to stop this vulgar culture, it can never be stopped. So we should collectively work to stop this to save our nation from destruction. I acknowledge that enjoyment is the part of the life and life becomes so colorless without this, but there are several means of enjoyment. Enjoyment should be productive, free from prejudices, lies and all kind of cheatings. Now we should be care about the norms and values of the society and we should work together for the sake of these.

Drama Culture
First of all I would like to discuss “what is the drama culture?” then what are the norms, values and tradition of Pakistan and then I would move to the major topic Effect of Drama Culture in Pakistani Society.
So what is the drama culture? By Drama we means that
“Any thing in writing or in acting which make people to laugh or grief or think about certain idea or to feel the conditions of some miserable people or a clear illustration of the situation by means of artificially created character and set which is totally imaginary in its creation”.
Actually the writer picturises the situation in words and the actor acts accordingly to make the situation clear to the reader or viewer of the drama. It is very effective way to convey your message to the audience.
By culture we means the
“Trends of the people of particular area to celebrate the events of happiness and grief according to the preset norms, values and tradition of the particular area or reluctance or acceptance in adoption of new things”.
During the last few years Pakistan adopted variety of things and also abolish lot of things. Adoption rate is so high than the deletion of things. Examples of the culture are the Punjabi, Sindi, Balochi and Phatan culture in Pakistan.
Scientifically culture is the particular habitat where different species of animal lead their lives with a high degree of interdependence. In this culture some animals are powerful while others are weak, stronger animal dominant the weaker one’s and ultimately they swallow the weaker animal’s b/c animal have no knowledge and wisdom. But there is an animal, which has knowledge and wisdom but also, behaves like proud animals, this animal is human being. This animal uses different tools and ways to disgrace weaker section of the community; kill them, abuse them, scold them, laugh at them, make fun of them and ultimately deprives them from their native right of universal freedom and compel them to live just to serve the stronger section of the community. Now the stage drama culture strengthens this process by introducing different new style and words to make laugh someone and disgrace some others.
This drama culture is totally base on the maltraditions of the society, which are nothing except lie, and collection of liar people who feel much happy while doing this. This culture also has some traditions to make other people laugh by telling lie, joking at them, boasting, making unrealistic stories about other, creation of imaginary writing or acting, the actor are just like the cartoons and the drama is their show in the dual hand of director producer and public in front of stage.
By the last few years this cartoon culture flourished much, which involved people of every age. Every body laughs widely on their act and enjoy themselves. The people feel that they are now free from the bitter reality of the cruel life while watching them. Those who are use to this culture become senseless and have no regard to the people in difficulty but they claim that they are very sensitive b/c they depicts the very minute things “which are usually neglected by the society” in their writing or acting to induce thinking on that point in the society. Infact they have no aim behind this except to attract people’s attention and accumulate money. This drama culture demolishes many traditions and values of our society.
